Remember as a kid when it was time to rip off the band-aid? All you could think about how bad it was going to burn. You knew it had to happen eventually but you were going to avoid it for as long as possible.
Starting to workout and eat healthy again can be a lot like ripping off a band-aid. You know you need to do it. You know that to move forward and become the best version of yourself something has to change. But knowing it doesn’t make it any easier.
Like many things, we can create a false narrative in our minds about how painful or difficult something will be. When we tell ourselves this over and over again the truer it becomes and the more excuses we come up with for not addressing the problem head-on. This is a pattern we can repeat for years before finding the courage to make a change.
Unfortunately, the longer we go without ripping off the band-aid, the more it’s going to hurt when it has to come off.
When it comes to working out, ripping off your band-aid isn’t going to be a cure-all, but it is going to show you that it’s not as bad as you thought it was. It’s like when you were a kid. Did you tear off your band-aid or did a parent do it for you? If you did it yourself you are much braver than I was.
