In February 2012, I was training for a collegiate bodybuilding competition. Four weeks prior to the competition, depleted of carbohydrates, irritable, and ready for change, I watched the 2010 Reebok CrossFit Games on ESPN. That was my introduction to CrossFit. I did not visit a local CrossFit box, experience the community and camaraderie, and sign-up for the Elements Course. I watched 48 men and women compete to be the fittest individuals in the world, and in doing so, I discovered a fitness program that would change my entire life.
I read hundreds of articles, watched countless hours of videos, and searched for CrossFit gym closest to my location. Unfortunately, the closest gym was 45 minutes away. So, I decided to become my own coach. I studied the concepts and methodologies, and taught myself everything from the nine foundational movements to Muscle-ups, Cleans, and Snatches. In April 2013, I received my CrossFit Level One Certificate. Then, in June 2013, I was fortunate enough to obtain an internship at Reebok CrossFit ONE (RCF1). My experience at RCF1 was invaluable, and it marked the beginning of a career. Following my time at RCF1, I coached at facilities in New Jersey, Virginia, and St. Thomas, USVI.
I relocated back to the states in August 2015 in order to complete my Master’s in Health, Physical Activity, and Chronic disease at the University of Pittsburgh. The community at Arsenal Strength is unbelievable. I am blessed and extremely grateful to have the opportunity to coach these amazing individuals, and to help the people of Pittsburgh to improve their quality of life though CrossFit.
