How to Stick to Your Gym Routine During the Summer (Without Missing Out)
Let’s be honest: summer doesn’t exactly make sticking to your gym routine easy.
Between vacations, long weekends, cookouts, later sunsets, and the general feeling that we’re all collectively trying to do less — your regular workout rhythm can take a hit. And that’s totally normal.
But if you’re someone who thrives on routine, losing that rhythm can also make you feel a little off. The good news? You don’t have to choose between enjoying summer and staying consistent. You can absolutely do both.
Here’s how we help our members make that happen — without guilt, stress, or missing out on all the fun.
1. Shift Your Focus to “Minimum Effective Dose”
You don’t need to hit the gym 5 days a week to make progress. During busy seasons, we encourage members to aim for their minimum effective dose — the smallest amount of work that still keeps momentum going.
For most people, that’s 2–3 solid workouts per week.
Strength + conditioning. In. Out. Done in an hour.
Then get back to your weekend plans.
2. Treat Workouts Like Appointments
Summer days tend to get away from us. If you wait to “see how the day goes,” it’s easy to run out of time.
Instead, look at your week ahead on Sunday, pick 2–3 class times, and block them into your calendar like you would a meeting or a dinner reservation. You don’t need to overthink it — just pick what’s realistic and stick to it.
3. Don’t Fall Into the “All or Nothing” Trap
Missed a week? Got off track during vacation? It’s fine. The worst thing you can do is wait until fall to “start fresh.”
Just come back. There’s no need to apologize or make up for anything. You don’t have to earn your next workout — you just have to show up for it.
4. Embrace Shorter Workouts if You’re Traveling
Not near the gym? Not a problem.
We’ve helped clients put together 20–30 minute workouts they can do while traveling or at home with minimal equipment.
A few squats, push-ups, lunges, and intervals can go a long way — especially when the goal is to stay in the routine, not set new personal records.
If you ever need help with this, just ask us — we’ve got you.
5. Use the Gym as a Summer Reset Button
Here’s a little-known secret: summer workouts feel better.
You walk in feeling a little tired, a little out of your routine… and leave feeling like yourself again.
Whether you’re training for something or just trying to keep it together through the chaos of summer, the gym can be a reset button — something familiar that keeps you grounded while everything else shifts around.
You Don’t Need to Be Perfect. Just Present.
Summer is short. Enjoy it. Make memories. Stay out too late sometimes.
But also know that you’re allowed to take care of yourself in the middle of it all — and you don’t have to press pause on your health to have a good time.
Stick to what you can. Let go of what you can’t. And if you need help, we’re here.
